Big Doors NM

Big Doors NM is a theatrical public art installation featuring very small doors affixed to very local buildings. Each door interprets the history of its neighborhood through the visual design of the door itself and a short accompanying soundscape. Originally inspired by Karen Anderson Singer’s Tiny Doors project in Atlanta, project director Andee Schray envisioned Big Doors NM as a means of bringing Albuquerque’s history to life in a brand-new, accessible way. The first two doors were built remotely in the 2020-21 season as Blackout sought innovative ways to safely hire artists and share New Mexican stories in the height of pandemic shutdowns.
